Understanding the Anatomy of a Successful Leader

As we approach the end of a summer, we thought it would be a good time to reflect on the key themes we’ve been writing about these past few months as different leaders in our industry have come to talk to us here at Grace Blue. We’ve been lucky to enjoy thought-provoking speeches from the likes of Ally Owen, founder of the Brixton Finishing School, Carol Keith, a volunteer at Shout and Polly Cochrane, SVP Marketing Director of Warner Brothers.

Leadership or how to effectively lead during times of great change, brought about particularly by technology and shift in consumer expectations is a constant topic of interest. It is something we wrestle with every day for our clients, what qualities are needed to lead, not just effectively, but brilliantly and to make a real difference to a business and how it performs.

Factors such as unlocking creativity and how to operate as an empathetic communicator were explored by more visiting speakers including Tim Lindsay, CEO of D&AD, Russ Shaw, Founder of Tech Advocates, Sherilyn Shackle, Founder and CEO of The Marketing Academy and most recently Chris Wilkins, political strategist and communications expert who had previously worked with former PM, Theresa May.

All of our posts about our visiting speakers are available to read here and we’d be delighted to share our thoughts on any of the subjects raised in these articles.

We are living through are seismic times, not just for our industry, but wider for the UK when it comes to the relationship with the EU and the world itself as it tackles global issues such as climate change, poverty and the role of technology in our lives. In all these areas, we need brilliant leaders and, as such, understanding what makes one person a better leader than another is critical to achieving a successful outcome.

As we look ahead to the Autumn, we have a fantastic line-up of speakers to come in our Leadership series including Julian Elliott, Dentsu Aegis Network’s previous Chief Data Officer, Dom O’Connor, Managing Partner at O2, Sharon Whale, CEO of Oliver and Simon Francis, CEO of Flock Associates.
